With 2017 now underway, Northland Power Company is hopeful Ontario will look favourably on the proposed Marmora pumped storage project to provide clean energy
Director of Business Development John Wright says the company is continuing to actively develop the project that would create and store energy at the old Marmora mine property.
Wright says the Ontario government is looking at its 2017 long-term energy plan coming out about the middle of this year.
He’s anticipating that there will be something in it affecting energy storage, which would be a “policy framework” for the pumped storage kind of project.
The Marmora pumped storage development would produce more than twice the energy produced by a similar project by Ontario Power Generation in Niagara Falls.
Wright says Northland is still optimistic about getting the project underway.
