A Trenton man who was charged with sexual assault has instead pleaded guilty to a charge of assault causing bodily harm.
Sixty-one-year-old Eric Watkins was arrested in March of last year after police received a complaint about an alleged offence that occurred between 1996 and 2000 in Belleville involving a male victim who was between 14 and 18 years old at the time.
A charge of sexual exploitation was withdrawn at Watkins’s trial in Belleville Superior Court and the sexual assault charge was replaced by assault causing bodily harm.
Watkins was sentenced to two years probation, handed a five-year weapons prohibition and ordered to provide a sample to the National DNA Data Bank.
