Prince Edward County is continuing with plans to get serious about offering more affordable housing.
Following closed session Tuesday night, council approved a motion that will see staff begin to prepare a Request For Proposal for the former ‘Duke Dome’ arena at 230 Nile Street in Wellington.
Mayor Robert Quaiff said every term he has sat on council, affordable housing is proclaimed as a top priority so now the conversation has to center around what type of commitment this council is willing to make.
Before the RFP goes out, council and staff will develop a background report on what their project initiatives are for the former Wellington arena.
In August, council approved its Corporate Strategic Plan with five major priorities including: financial stability, business friendly environment, maintain rural and historic character, a community with employment and affordable housing and sustainable community healthcare.
