QRD Weekly Report – Sunday September 11, 2016
The 2016-17 season kicks off with the Bonn Law Minor Peewees, and the Foley Bus Lines Peewees winning the Ottawa Senators AAA Shootout Tournaments in Ottawa!
Bonn Law – Minor Peewee
The Bonn Law Quinte Red Devils Minor Peewee team travelled to the nation’s capital this weekend, to participate in the 14th annual September AAA Shootout. First up for the Red Devils was a game with The Kanata Blazers.The Devils were down by a pair of goals late in the third period, despite heavily outshooting the Blazers. The team battled hard and popped two quick ones to tie the game 2-2. Scoring for the Devils was Ethan Miedema and Benjamin Lynch. Nick Oke picked up an assist in the game. Aidan Crowley earned the win between the pipes.
Next up on Friday was a game against the Nepean Raiders. The Devils continued to put forth a great effort, where they carried the majority of the play, earning a 3-2 win in the game. Scoring for the Devils was Cal Uens, Miedema and Lynch. Adding helpers on the goals was Spencer Cranley, Will Potts and Vincent Bellavance. Logan Vale got the win in net.
Game three was set for Saturday against the Cumberland Grads. Once again, the team improved on their last game and skated to a 4-2 victory over the Grads. Lighting the lamp for the Devils in the game was Uens, Miedema, Bellavance and Cranley. Chipping in with helpers on the goals was Jack Lowry, Duncan Schneider, Christopher Brydges, Lynch and Oke. Crowley earned the win in net for his team. In their final game of the round robin, the Devils faced the Ottawa Sting. The Devils couldn’t seem to find a consistent stride in the game and fell 5-4 to the Sting. Scoring the goals in the game was Will Potts, Ethan Quick, Brydges and Cranley. Quick, Jack Dever, Cranley (2), and Uens all added assists. Vale and Crowley split the duties between the pipes.
The Red Devils would get a rematch with the Sting in the semi final game on Sunday morning. Both teams battled hard, exchanging goals and were tied at three at the end of regulation. The Devils were quick to score in four on four overtime, to take the win and advance to the tournament final, which would be another rematch, this time with the Kanata Blazers. Michael Dolton, Cranley and Quick all scored in regulation, and Vince Bellavance buried the game winner in OT. Adding helpers on the goals were Bellavance (2), Dever, Cranley and Miedema. Crowley had a strong game between the pipes.
In the tournament championship game, The Devils brought their very best of the season to date. They dominated the play with their speed and work ethic. In a total team effort, the Red Devils defeated the Blazers 5-2 to earn the championship title. Cal Uens had a hat trick in the championship game, while Brydges and Quick also added a goal each. Adding helpers on the goals were Cranley (2), Schneider (2), Bellavance, Lynch, Lowry, Oke and Dever. Crowley was sharp between the pipes in the victory.
Foley Bus Lines – Peewee
“Threepeat” Champions at The Ottawa Senators AAA Shootout Tournament!
The Foley Bus Lines Peewee Red Devils are the 2016 Ottawa Senators AAA Shootout Tournament Champions again. The ’04 Red Devils have now won the Shootout Tournament the past three consecutive years!
On Friday Sept 9, The Bus Liners opened the tournament against a tough Eastern Ontario Wild. The match ended in a 1 to 1 tie with Trevor Hoskin scoring the lone goal, unassisted. Andrew Munro stood tall in the Devils net, making several beat the key saves to keep the Devils in the game.
In game two; on Friday, the Foley Bus Liners met the familiar and aggressive Markham Waxers. It took a while for the Devils to get on the board, but they did so by scoring 5 goals in the third to beat the Waxers by a score of 5 to 1. Scoring for the Devils were; Corbin Roach, Kendrick Webster Rheydan McCoy and Trevor Hoskin with a pair. Dalyn Wakely picked up a pair of assists, while Donovan McCoy, Liam Filip, and Parker Stewart had singles. Corbin Votary was strong in the Devils net for the Devils win.
On Saturday Sept 10, the peewee Devils faced the North Central Predators. It was all Devils in this match as the Devils skated to a 7 to 1 win. Dalyn Wakely picked up the first Devil “hat trick” of the season with a trio of goals, while Cooper Matthews added a pair. Kendrick Webster and Trevor Hoskin had singles. Parker Stewart, Sami Douglas-Najem, Liam Filip, Donovan McCoy, Rheydan McCoy, Trevor Hoskin, Connor Hunt, and Blake Ellis all had assists. Andrew Munro was on guard in the Devils net.
In Game Four of the Tournament, the Foley Bus Lines Devils faced the top ranked Burlington Eagles, where the winner would advance to the semi-finals. The Devils played a solid game and blanked the Eagles by a score of 2 to 0. Scoring for the Devils were Dalyn Wakely and Kendrick Webster. Parker Stewart had an assist. Picking up his 2nd shut out of the year was Corbin Votary in the Devils cage.
In the Semi-Final match on Sunday Sept 11, the Devils faced the Grey Bruce Highlanders. The Devils put 7 point on the board, beating the Highlanders by a score of 7 to 3. Scoring for the Devils were; Corbin Roach, Connor Hunt, Kendrick Webster, Rheydan McCoy, Trevor Hoskin and Dalyn Wakely with a pair. Assisting on the Devil goals were; Rheydan McCoy with two, Dalyn Wakely with two, Corbin Roach with a trio, Owen Gibson, Isaac Brown, Connor Hunt, Trevor Hoskin, Rheydan McCoy, Kendrick Webster and Donovan McCoy. Andrew Munro was on duty as the Devils netminder.
The Championship game on Sunday, saw the Devils in an OMHA Championship rematch with the Ajax-Pickering Raiders. In an exciting fast paced game, the Devils came out on top by a score of 6 to 5. Devils goals were scored by; Corbin Roach, Donovan McCoy, Rheydan McCoy, Liam Filip and Trevor Hoskin with a pair. Rheydan McCoy and Dalyn Wakely each had a pair of assists, while Donovan McCoy, Cooper Matthews, Blake Ellis and Trevor Hoskin has single assists. Corbin Votary went the distance in the Devils net as the Devils took home Gold.
Next action for the Foley Bus Lines Peewee Red Devils is Saturday Sept 17, against the Oshawa Generals in the Season Opener. Puck drops at 3:45 at the QSWC on the FDC Pad.
McInroy – Maines – Major Midget
The McInroy-Maines Major Midget Quinte Red Devils are in full swing as they began training camp September 2nd with a series of on-ice/off-ice workouts and exhibition games. It has been a competitive camp and the final roster is almost set for the 2016-2017 campaign.
On Tuesday September 6th the Devils travelled to Kingston for an exhibition affair, where they skated to a 4-4 tie with the Jr. Frontenacs. Goals were scored by Brendan Hagerman, Madoka Suzuki (2) and Nate Boomhower. Assists went to Matt Poole, Suzuki, Elliot Belzile, Matt Sherwin and Zack Wheeler. Evan Morrison was solid and took the tie in net.
On Friday September 9th the team traveled to Peterborough for the second of two exhibition games and came out the victor with a 5-1 win. This time, Matt Poole, Brinley Finch, Noah Brant, Ryan Kirkpatrick, and Brayden Forestell found the back of the net. Assists to Madoka Suzuki (2) Matt Sherwin (2), Joe Roy and Justin Arnold. Pierce Nelson stood tall for the win in net. The boys have a few practices left this week in preparation for the Home Opener against the Central Ontario Wolves on September 17th 2:00pm at the Deseronto Community Centre.
Madison Excavating – Major Atom
The Madison Excavating Major Atoms took to the road this past weekend to represent in the highly competitive Toronto Marlies Friendship Tournament. The team was prepared to work hard as they were up against some very strong competition through round robin play.
Game one on Friday had the Devils facing the quick New Jersey Colonials. The Devils were first on the scoreboard and then continued their offensive domination throughout the game adding another 5 goals to make it a 6-1 victory. Scoring for Quinte were Landon Wright(2), Gage Butcher(2), Beckett Ewart and Jared Langdon. Assists came from Langdon(3), Wright, Butcher, Brody Partridge and Carson Campbell. Glen McInnes recorded the win in net.
Friday’s game two had the Atoms facing the North York Rangers. Quinte came on strong in the first, outshooting their opponents 16-2 but the first period ended scoreless. The second period saw the Devils take a 2-0 lead with goals from Ewart and Kirk Stevenson, assisted by Campbell, Landgon, Butcher and Wright. Brody Partridge added one more in the third, assisted by Deacon Ellis to take the 3-0 win over the Rangers. Dean Spry took the shut out in the net.
Game one Saturday was a match up between the Devils and the Toronto Red Wings. The Devils struggled in the first period and were down 1-0 by period end. The second period was a tough battle and it was Langdon who tied it up 1-1, assisted by Ewart and Ben Vreugdenhil. Forced to play the penalty kill throughout the second and third, the Devils came up short and could not recover as they succumbed to a 6-1 loss.
Saturday’s game two had the Devils verses the Toronto Jr. Canadiens. Partridge opened the scoring, assisted by Liam Philip.The Jr. Canadiens responded with thier own offense and quickly made it a 4-1 game in their favour. The determined Devils did not back down and thanks to goals from Philip, Wright(2) and Langdon, assisted by Ty McCambridge, Braedyn Rogers, Langdon and Ewart, the Devils made an amazing comeback and tied the game at 5-5 in the third. It was just in the last few minutes of the third that the Jr. Canadiens were able to take a 6-5 lead. Quinte fought hard to the dying seconds but came up just short.
This upcoming week the Madison Excavating Major Atoms will open their season on the road as they head to Markham to face the Waxers at Centennial Arena on Sept. 17. On Sunday, Sept. 18 the Devils will be back on the road to Whitby to take on the Wildcats at the McKinney Centre.
Vanderlaan Homes – Minor Bantam
The Vanderlaan Homes Minor Bantam’s started the season participating in the Toronto Red Wings Early Bird Tournament. The opening game matched the Devils against the host team where they came up short losing 3-2. Goals from the Devils were scored by Daniel Michaud and Zack Brooks with assists from Clayton Farrow and Jett Butler. Ethan Fraser was solid in net. The team played the Ajax-Pickering Raiders in the second game of the day coming out with a 2-1 win. Goals scored by Daniel Michaud and Ben White. Helpers from Jett Butler, Connor Brooks and Clayton Farrow. Dixon Grimes was in net for the win.
The Devils opened up the second day of tournament action with a 3-2 win over the Guelph Gryphons. Goals scored by Nathaniel Burelle, Ben White, and Zack Brooks. Assisting the goals were Zack Brooks, Nathaniel Burelle (2), and Gavin Camp. Ethan Fraser in net for the win. The final game of the tournament matched the Devil’s against Victory Honda. Both teams were vying for the points needed to move on to the Consolation finals. The Devil’s lost 5-2. Goals were scored by Blake Maracle and Daniel Michaud. Helpers came from Lucas Culhane (2) and Gavin Camp. Dixon Grimes was in nets. They finished the tournament at a 0.500 record. The Vanderlaan Minor Bantam’s open regular season action with an away game September 18th against the Clarington Toro’s at 2:30 pm.
Rhino Sports and Play – Minor Midget
Game #1 – Peterborough Pete’s (5 – 2 Loss)
The goals for the Minor Midget Red Devils were scored by Dalton Bancroft and Graham Dickerson while assists went to Matt Cawker, Cameron Supryka, Michael Andrews and Conner Kennedy. Brennan Bush was in net for the loss and deserved a better outcome but being the battler that Bushy is … he will be ready for the next game against the Brantford 99’ers.
Game #2 – Vaughan Kings (5 – 0 Win)
The Rhino Sports and Playland Quinte Red Devil Minor Midgets came ready to play one of the top teams in the province and skated to a 5-0 victory. The goals scoring attack was led by Jake Campbell who netted a Hat Trick while Dalton Bancroft and Matt Cawker added singles. The assists went to Daniel Panetta (2), Derrick Vos, Logan White, Michael Andrews and Bailey Matthews (2). Ethan Taylor was sensational in the net for the Red Devils as he stopped every shot while earning his first shutout of the season and the first victory of the tournament.
Game #3 – Hamilton Bulldogs (3 – 2 Win)
Bailey Matthews would open up the scoring on a passing play with Matt Cawker and the Red Devils would strike again as Emmett Pierce scored and Michael Andrews assisted for the Minor Midgets. Less than three minutes later Matt Cawker would make it 3-0 for the Red Devils on a three way passing play with Emmett Pierce and Bailey Matthews; the Midget Red Devils would outlast the Bulldogs and win 3-2.
Game #4 – Brantford 99’ers (3 – 2 Win)
Similar to the game against the Bulldogs the night before the Minor Midgets came out strong and took the play to the opposition and once again it would be Bailey Matthews who opened the scoring for the Red Devils. The Red Devils Graham Dickerson would make it 2-1 for the Minor Midgets on a pass from Michael Andrews and Jake Campbell. Brennan Bush would keep the Red Devils in the lead with key saves and with just over eight minutes remaining in the third period Michael Andrews would score off of a face-off play as Derrick Vos and Cameron Supryka would pick up the assists.
Elimination Round – Mississauga Senators (2 – 1 Loss )
The Elimination round consists of the top 16 teams remaining from the 52 that started play on Wednesday night. The Pond at Rhino Sports and Playland Minor Midgets were one of those teams and had a chance to move into the semi-finals with a victory against the Mississauga Senators who were 4-0 in the preliminary round. The Red Devils lone goal was scored by Nolan Seto would find the back of the net on a goal mouth scramble the assist would go to Logan White. The Senators would win the game 2-1 and move onto face the Ajax Pickering Raiders.
Next up for the Rhino Sports and Playland Minor Midget Red Devils will be their season home opener against the Central Ontario Wolves at the Quinte Sports and Wellness Center, game time is 5:45pm followed by a game on Sunday versus the York Simcoe Express at the same venue, game time is 12 noon.
Free Flow Petroleum – Major Bantam
This weekend the Free Flow Petroleum Major Bantams competed in the Toronto Red Wings early bird tournament finishing second in their pool and advancing to the consolation quarter finals. The boys played an excellent team game against the York Simcoe Express and scored twice in the third period to tie the game with seven minutes remaining. Unfortunately, YSE scored two late goals and an empty netter to defeat the Red Devils 5-2 and advance to the semi finals.
In pool play the major bantams opened the tourney with a convincing 7-1 win over Ajax-Pickering. Their second game on Friday was a hard fought 1-0 win over the Upper Canada Cyclones. Play on Sarurday saw their competition improve and the results change. Although they outplayed Elgin-Middlesex the bounces didn’t go their way and they fell 3-1. The last pool game was against the Mississauga Reps. The team ran into penalty trouble and the Reps made them pay with several power play goals and an empty netter winning 6-1.
The following players all contributed to the offensive output with goals and assists. Isaac Langdon, Jacob Gilbert, Jacob Vreugdenhil, Marshall McFarland, Jaxen Boyer, Garrett Bird, Connor Macgregor, Gavin Stevenson, Cole McGuire, Ben Roger. The goal keeping duties were shared by Nick McGowan and Sam Dingle who showed that the Red Devils will be difficult to score on in league play which begins Thursday, September 15th at 8:15 at the Quinte Wellness Centre when the boys host the Oshawa Generals.
