If Quinte West council approves the plan, there’ll be no charge for public skating at arenas this season.
The city’s Corporate Finance Committee agreed with a staff recommendation to drop the $2 a person fee for public skating, and instead ask people for a voluntary donation to the local food bank.
Staff says attendance at the city’s public skating events has been steadily declining, and the profit from the skates is under $500.
The Committee agreed that everyone would be better served by free skating and that the food bank would also benefit.
