A pair of Quinte West firefighters sent to hospital with heat exhaustion following a huge grass fire Wednesday afternoon are recovering.
Multiple Quinte West detachments rushed to 1363 County Road 40 in Murray Ward just before 2 p.m. to battle the blaze about 25 acres in size. Road closures were put in place for a little over two hours.
Amid the heat, two firefighters were taken to Trenton Memorial Hospital, one suffering from chest pains.
Quinte West Fire Chief John Whalen said the guys were released from hospital Wednesday night and are doing well.
Whalen said they are interviewing the homeowner as the investigation continues into a cause.
He is reminding the public that there is still a total burn ban on in Quinte West and anyone being careless resulting in a fire could face a hefty fine.
