Two Quinte West Firefighters suffering from heat exhaustion were taken to Trenton Memorial Hospital after battling a huge grass fire Wednesday afternoon.
The blaze, about 25 acres in size, forced all seven detachments to respond to 1363 County Rd. 40 in Murray Ward.
Quinte West Fire Chief John Whalen says the fire quickly spread.
Whalen says two of his guys were taken to hospital, one with chest pains.
He isn’t sure what the cause was but, “given the total burn ban” he adds, “if you’re careless you’ll get a big bill.”
Whalen says the homeowner wasn’t home at the time of the fire but he will be interviewing him.
The fire started just before 2 p.m. forcing road closures but the area has since reopened to traffic.
