Quinte West OPP are reminding the public that with the end of school comes increased young people on the roads and sidewalks, day and night.
With that reminder the OPP are issuing some safety tips.
Motorists should be aware of young people playing close to sidewalks and roads and be alert for key indicators that someone may run onto the road like a wandering soccer ball or other play equipment.
Parents should teach their children to make eye-contact before they step off a curb and remind them to walk and not run across the street even in a crosswalk. Don’t jaywalk and teach your children to cross at intersections and marked crosswalks.
Motorists should also be mindful of the increase in bicycle traffic on area roads and parents should ensure that when children are on their bicycles they are wearing a helmet and are following the rules of the road.
