Quinte West OPP will be supporting a safe Quinte International Air Show this weekend on June 25 and June 26 at 8 Wing/CFB Trenton.
The event is expected to bring 50,000 spectators per day to the City of Quinte West. To assist with the increased traffic to the area, the OPP will be bringing visitors along a preferred route of traffic.
The following route will be monitored and controlled by OPP officers and given priority to keep traffic flowing to and away from the event:
1) Highway 401 to the Glen Miller Road Exit.
2) South on Sidney Street to Hamilton Road.
3) East on Hamilton Road to RCAF Road.
4) RCAF Road to available parking on the base.
Please consider using this “Highway of Heroes” route when attending and leaving the Air show. Due to the expected traffic congestion with Air Show attendees, if you are not attending the Air Show event, you may wish to avoid this area during the air show times. Traffic priority will be given to those attending the event, thus other travelers should expect delays.
The following road closures will be in effect on Saturday June 25 and Sunday June 26 between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.:
1) Old Highway 2 will be closed west of Quinte View Road. West bound traffic will be detoured at Whites Road to Hamilton Road.
2) Dundas Street East will be closed east of the Trenton Town Centre. Traffic will be diverted back to Byron Street, Princess Street to Sidney Street.
There are also a number of road closures and parking restrictions that will be in effect during the Air Show weekend.
1) No parking on RCAF Road south of the CP tracks.
2) No parking on Whites Road between First Avenue (Sunny Creek Estates) and the CP tracks.
3) No parking at Bain Park.
The OPP will be promoting a safe Air Show weekend using social media. Information, facts, safety tips, and traffic details will be posted on both the OPP Twitter and OPP Facebook pages.
