UPDATE: Power has been partially restored. About 50 people remain without power on the west end of Bell Blvd.
Officials with Veridian Connections say the large power outage this morning originated near Bell Boulevard and Sidney Streets, at the Canada Post sorting facility on Davy Road.
A spokesperson tells Quinte News there was some sort of disruption in the privately-owned power line that feeds the mail facility, which caused a fault in the broader electricity grid, eventually affecting the majority of Veridian’s public feeders.
When the outage happened, around 11:00 this morning, about 13,000 customers were left without power.
The source says most, if not all, members of the public should have their power back and at this point, the only ones still without power are five businesses near the source of the incident.
Those industrial businesses should be back up and running this afternoon.
