A pertussis outbreak in the Bancroft area is spreading.
Pertussis, also known as whooping cough is a highly contagious respiratory disease. It is caused by the bacterium Bordetella pertussis.
On April 29, the Hastings and Prince Edward Health Unit reported two confirmed cases at the Bird’s Creek Public School.
Health Protection Department Manager Bill Sherlock says now there are eight cases at North Hastings High School and they are investigating a few more.
An immunization clinic is being held at the Bancroft office on Wednesday, May 25 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
