Some stories of bravery and heroism were told at the Belleville Police Service Board meeting today (Wednesday).
The board honoured Constable Brad Stitt for apprehending a gun-wielding man earlier this year and Constable Barry Lannin and Prince Edward County resident Paul Jones, for their roles in talking two citizens out of committing suicide.
Jones tells Quinte News he was acting on instinct when he approached the woman, who had climbed over the railing on the Norris-Whitney Bridge, and talked her down.
Jones says adrenaline kept him from realizing what was going on, but once the ordeal was over, it started to sink in.
He says he’s been in touch with the woman since the incident and she thanked him for helping her out.
Constable Stitt chased down a man who had been pointing a hand gun at cars, in the early morning hours of March 13th of this year and was honoured for putting his life on the line.
Constable Lannin’s situation was similar to Jones’, but it happened on the CN Rail overpass at Moira and Sidney Streets.
Constable Lannin was able to talk down a man who had tied a rope to his neck at the overpass and was threatening to jump.
