Stirling Rawdon council has set its budget for this year.
Mayor Rodney Cooney says it was a tough four month process to bring in a budget with only a modest
two and a half percent increase because financial support from the provincial government dropped again.
This year, the province is granting just over $100,000 less to Stirling Rawdon than it did the year before.
In 2010, the province granted Stirling-Rawdon almost 1.6 million dollars. This year, the grant is $990,000.
The two and a half percent increase means a homeowner with a house worth $200,000 will pay $2,846 in local taxes this year, about $33 more than last year.
The police department takes up most of the budget, costing 1.85 million dollars this year, closely followed by roadwork and other public works at 1.76 million.
