A new program at Loyalist College to support aboriginal students in the construction trades has received a financial boost from the provincial government.
The province is spending $3 million to support 20 projects across Ontario and, today, Loyalist received $112,665 for its Aboriginal Construction Renovation Program.
Northumberland Quinte West MPP Lou Rinaldi was on hand for the presentation.
The college’s manager of aboriginal services, Paul Latchford, says the program is kept to a small number of students.
He says it is on-the-job training in a 16-week program.
Latchford says it’s about visual learning and “you can teach math on the side of a 2×4.”
