The Belleville Police Service is continuing an investigation into an incident at city residence the evening of January 8, 2016.
Officers were called to a home on O’Neill Drive in the city’s east end shortly after 8 p.m. Friday January 8, 2016. Upon arrival, police located a male inside the home who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
While the victim was transported to hospital, front-line members of the Belleville Police Service – with the assistance of the Ontario Provincial Police TRU team and OPP Canine Unit – searched the area for a male suspect.
During the search, several households in the area were locked down for a short period of time at the request of police as a precaution.
The suspect is described as mid-30s, with shaved head, trimmed goatee, approximately 5’8” in height, stocky build. The suspect was wearing dark clothing at the time of the incident and fled in an unknown direction on foot.
Meanwhile, the male victim remains in hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
This is an active, fluid investigation at this time, however police believe this was an isolated incident and there is no danger to the community.
