Hastings-Quinte now has a better idea of just what it means that the province has decided to pick up the cost of funding child-care spaces that the federal govenrment dropped. Ottawa’s decision to drop the subsidy meant job cuts and a waiting list for child care in Belleville, Quinte west, and Hastings County, The Joint Social Services department says the province will provide 800-thousand dollars for subsidies this year. Executive Director Eric Frye says it will fund 95-child care spaces and hopefully wipe out the child care waiting list for low income people….including parents who have gone back to school.
