Operation HESTIA was a success. The Joint Task Force in helping rebuild Hati has now ended, but the impact Canada has made as part of that team will remain. Major Kevin Skirrow and Major Eric Cyr of 8 wing Trenton helped transform a local airport in Jacmel to an international “air head”, allowing planes and helicopters to safely deliver supplies to relief organizations. During the 56 days of the mission… the airport saw over 80 planes per day. Major Skirrow says they helped train locals to operate their airport securely so they could continue to operate safely after they left. The airport in Jacmel was one of three stations focused on by Canadian Forces in Hati.
