A 63-year old Belleville man will spend 30 days in jail…to be served on weekends…for drinking and driving. Manuel Almeida was convicted of blood-alcohol levels over the legal limit after being pulled over by an off-duty Belleville officer almost 3.5 years ago. Almedia made headlines nearly 12-years ago after pleading guilty to dangerous driving causing death in an accident that claimed the life of a 13-year old Port Hope boy who was in town for a minor hockey tournament. The teen was killed instantly when struck by Almeida’s pick-up truck as it travelled up North Front Street at twice the legal speed limit with no headlights on. Almeida was fined 3-thousand dollars in court this morning…..and, was also given a 3-year driving prohibition. He begins his sentence on Friday.
