The actions of three Belleville men, who rescued three people from a burning vehicle near Napanee, will be recognized by Governor General Michaelle Jean.
Jean’s office has announced the recipients of 19 medals of bravery, including David Byrd, Michael Byrd and Corporal Gabriel Proulx, who responded after a vehicle, involved in a traffic accident in June, 2008, burst into flames. They pulled a teenaged boy through the car’s back window, hauled a woman to safety, and then removed the driver just as the gas tank ignited. Unfortunately, the driver died from his injuries a few weeks later. A ceremony will be held at a later date.
