Prince Edward Hastings federal liberals marked the 100-th anniversary of International Women’s Day by paying tribute to women in politics at Belleville library last night. Women make up 52-pecent of the Canadian population but only 22-percent of the federal government. That statistic puts Canda behind more than 40 other countries, including Pakistan. Liberal Association president Bob Cotterell says the tribute to women in politics marks the milestones made since the turn of the 20-th century. That includes the first black women to run for a federal party, and the first woman to be elected to a provincial legislature. Local Liberal women honoured are Kay Mandervile, Sheila Alexander, Sue O’brien and June Rickard.
