The Ontario Labour Relations Board is expected to hold an official count today on the vote by faculty at Loyalist and the province’s 23 other community colleges on management’s final offer.
The Ontario Public Service Employees Union, which represents the nine-thousand teachers, counsellors and librarians, postponed the strike deadline until the final results are in, because it felt the outcome was too uncertain.
The union says 8,360 valid ballots were counted after the February tenth vote at the 24 colleges, and the approval level was just over 51 per cent.
However, over 350 mail-in ballots were sent out, and 141 were segrated, so there could be 500 ballots yet to be counted, depending on the rate of return.
