Hundreds visited city hall during the New Years Levee Friday.
The army, navy and air force bands played to welcome in the new year.
During his speech, Mayor Neil Ellis said, “there is no doubt Belleville flourished in 2009.”
Ellis went on to say that when other communities have struggled, Belleville has weathered the storm.
The levee lasted over two hours long and may be the biggest levee Belleville has had.
