Belleville businessman Jim Sinclair disagrees with the city planning committee’s decision to table his rezoning application for property on College Street East.
The committee tabled application last night because there are environmental concerns about a water course in the area and the land itself. However, Sinclair, who wants to build a scrap yard at the site, says there no negative environmental issues with the property, and there was never any contamination.
The committee wants Sinclair to settle the environmental issue with the Ministry of the Environment before it would consider the rezoning. Sinclair, who recently completed a jail term on environmental offences, plans to close his scrap yard on Dundas Street East once he gets permission to open the facility on College.
