It wasn’t the news staff at the Belleville Intelligencer mailroom wanted to hear. Parent company Sun Media informed them on Tuesday it is cutting 40 of the 50 jobs in the Hanna Court facility by mid-January and moving the remaining employees to a smaller location. The employees insert flyers into the daily newspaper. Local Union Chair Paul Svoboda calls the news disappointing and he feels for the people losing their jobs. He says the company reduced staff in the mailroom last year but had called many of them back to work. The majority of the inserts will be done in Kingston or Toronto and the company will operate a depot centre in Belleville.
