The smallpox epidemic that ravaged the Tweed area over 100 years ago will be remembered this Thursday.
The Ontario Heritage Trust and the Tweed and Area Historical Society will unveil a provincial plaque commemorating the Hungerford township epidemic of 1884.
The trust says epidemics in Hungerford, Peterborough, Windsor and other communities 125 years ago had a profound effect on the development of public health measures in the province.
The plaque unveiling takes place at the Lions Hungerford Hall in Tweed at two o’clock Thursday afternoon.
