The debate among federal political parties over improving access to Employment Insurance isn’t a surprise to the President of the Quinte Labour Council.
The Q-L-C has heard from dozens of people about their experiences while receiving E-I, or even trying to get it, since it asked for feedback about a year ago.
Some people were relieved they qualified for benefits after they lost their jobs, but President Andy Hanson says a lot of the respondents didn’t even qualify because their hours were reduced before they were laid off..
He says it’s very discouraging for the jobless to discover they’re just a few hours short of qualifying for Employment Insurance.
