More new jobs in Hastings, Prince Edward, Lennox and Addington and other parts of Eastern Ontario, but still an increase in the unemployment rate.
Statistics Canada says 214.5-thousand people were working in the three counties, along with Renfrew and Frontenac Counties last month, up by 400 from July.
However, the ranks of the unemployed went up by 300, to 20.6-thousand, pushing the local jobless rate in August to 8.8 per cent from 8.6 the month before.
The area’s unemployment figure in August, 2008 was 6.5 per cent.
