The economic downtown can be seen in the latest construction statistics for Brighton. Chief Building Officer Rick Jones says construction value is down 24-percent. Residential starts have dropped this year, but he says some builders have indicated more projects will get underway before winter. Jones says Brighton has been on a building boom for the past nine years and this year’s slow down is not surprising. Forty building permits have been issued in the municipality so far this year for construction projects worth 17.3-million dollars, down by 5.4-million from this time in 2008.
