Belleville teenager Melanie Burton, Canada’s Teenflare volunteer of trhe year, has now been honoured south of the border.
Burton, who appeared before city council last night to receive a certificate, says she was picked by Time Magazine as one of its 30-volunteers honoured on the field before the recent all-Star Baseball game in St. Louis. She didn’t get to meet President Barack Obama as he threw out the first pitch, since the volunteers had to get off the field for security reasons. Burton, a Moira Secondary School student, runs the program Reading Rocks, helping young children read.
