The lockdown of Warkworth Institution continues after Tuesday night’s refusal by prisoners to return to their cells from a recreation yard.
Assistant warden at Warkworth, Anne Anderson, says prison staff have inmates locked in cells, and an investigation into the reasons behind the revolt continues. A search for contraband will be launched soon. For now, visitors will not be accepted.
Meanwhile, Warkworth officials have released the name of the prisoner who died of a drug overdose. He was Craig Kimberley, who was serving time for first degree murder. 11 prisoners remain in stable condition in outside hospitals after suspected drug overdoses. A prison health office was broken into during the disturbance.
