A Brighton woman, who thought she’d be released from a Pakistani prison two weeks ago, is still in jail.
Thirty-eight-year-old Deborah Kerr thought she’d been acquitted of drug trafficking charges on May 26th, after appealing her sentence and conviction, and was getting out that day. However, Kerr wasn’t acquitted, but a Pakistani court ruled her sentence would be time served, two years and four months, and she would be deported.
Kerr was arrested after six kilograms of heroin, which she claims were planted, were found in a container next to her luggage at the Islamabad International Airport on February first, 2007. She will remain in prison, likely for a few more weeks, until the written order of her sentence and release is finished.
