A lengthy two-and-a half hour submission by the defence lawyer failed to keep Bakelite site owner James Sinclair out of jail yesterday. He was sentenced on 15-environmental charges related to excavations on the contaminated site and releasing toxins into the Bay of Quinte. Justice John Doran said “this is where the rubber hits the road” and “time in the hour glass has finally run out.” He sentenced 67-year old Sinclair to jail for a total of ten months on four of the charges of releasing P-C-Bs into the Bay of Quinte…he’ll serve four months concurrent. Sinclair and his company were fined a total of 692-thousand dollars on all the charges.
