Quarry proposal off to tribunal

After years of waiting in the wings, it appears an application for a quarry license will be going to a tribunal.

A license application by CH Demill Holdings Inc, is headed to the Local Planning Appeal Tribunal, formerly known as the Ontario Municipal Board.

Melrose Quarry is a 60-acre site, northeast of Long’s Quarry, east of Shannonville Road, north of Melrose Road in Tyendinaga Township.

Zoning needs to also be approved before the project goes forward.

Sue Munro with the Citizens Against Melrose Quarry says the proposal has been in the hands of the Ministry of Natural Resources for years.

No date for the tribunal has been set.

Tyendinaga Township Clerk Steve Mercer says they have been listed as an objector to the site for now, stating they do not want the project to go forward, until it receives license and zoning approval.
