Napanee RIDE Nabs A Pair

Napanee OPP have made a couple of arrests following a RIDE check last night.
They say a 23-year old Newburgh man was charged with over 80 miligrams after he tested positive back at the station.
Meanwhile police stopped a red truck after two motorists reported it was driving erratically and was all over the road.
A 65-Year old Newburgh man faces impaired driving charges.
Police also conducted a radar check aand charged a driver with going 82 km/h in a 50 zone.
Belleville Domestic
An unidentified suspect will appear in court Monday after being arrested and slappde with nine charges including assault and possession of restricted weapons.
Belleville police arrested the man after responding to a domestic dispute in the city’s West End.
They say the suspect reportedly pointed a gun at a female.
A search of the location was conducted by police and they found two handguns.
Warkworth Locked Down
The lockdown continues at Warkworth Institution.
Media was notified of the lockdown around 5:30 last night and prison officials say it’s in the interet of safety and security while an exceptional search for contraband takes place.
All normal operations at the facility have been suspended until the search is finished.
Visits to Warkworth have also been cancelled until the facility reopens when management feels it’s safe to do so.
Illegal Ciggies in Northumberland
A huge seizure of illegal cigarettes near Colborne.
The O-P-P say an officer on patrol noticed a vehicle running in the carpool lot at Percy Street and Highway 4-0-1 at 3-30 this morning. Further investigation revealed the man in the car was transporting 200-thousand cigarettes.
Thirty-one-year-old Ryan Bero of the Akwesasne First Nation, near Cornwall, is charged under the Ontario Tobacco Act.
The cigarettes were seized by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
Napanee high school teachers have new contract
Public High School Teachers in Napanee, Odessa, Cloyne and Kingston have a new four-year contract.
The teachers and the Limestone School Board have ratified a deal that includes three per cent salary increases each year, improvements to group benefits and staffing, and class size adjustments.
The contract effects 535 teachers, members of the Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation.
QHC Corporate members don’t like proposal hospital cuts
The Quinte Healthcare Corporate members have sent a clear message to Q-H-C, that they don’t want hospital cutbacks.
Prince Edward County Mayor Leo Finnegan says about 100 people braved yesterday’s snowstorm for a members meeting in Picton with hospital officials.
He says Q-H-C made a power point presentation of the three options to reduce a projected 15-million-dollar deficit, and then one of the corporate members suggested a straw vote be held on each of the options, and there was no support for any of the three.
Finnegan says it is obvious Quinte Healthcare will have to rework plans to close beds and make other reductions in Picton and Trenton.
Elementary teachers’ contract talks continue into February
Contract talks between the Hastings-Prince Edward School board and its elementary teachers’ union will continue into next month.
Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario local president Karen Fisk says more discussions were held yesterday, for the second time this month, and she’s expecting a complete offer when both sides get back together on February tenth.
She wouldn’t comment on specifics of yesterday’s meeting.
The board’s seven-hundred elementary teachers have been working under the terms of their old contract, which expired at the end of August, 2008.
Quinte West Cops Go To Quebec
Quinte West OPP made a long distance arrest this morning. Officers travelled into Quebec early this morning…just across the border from Ottawa….and, picked up a suspect arrested by Gatineau officers. The 44-year old man faces charges of criminal harassment. He has a bail hearing later today….no name was released.

Baymount Project Needs Investors
The stocks are available for 3-cents a pop….but, apparently aren’t going fast enough to get the new Belleville Racetrack and Slot Parlour project off the ground. Baymount Incorporated has reiterated its offer of up to 1.5-million dollars in shares, as announced prior to Christmas. The company is attempting to secure capital to build the new Quinte Exhibition & Raceway on Bell Boulevard. 634-thousand dollars in gross proceeds have been raised, so far, and the company continues to make contact with potential investors. The OLG has partnered with Baymount on the slot parlour but the multi-million dollar project has been stagnant since a sod-turning ceremony last September.
