Virginia Margaret (Chamney) Nurse
Our darling Virginia (Ginny) died on February 25th (at the age of 94) at Belmont Long Term Care Facility. Predeceased by her devoted husband Bill Nurse (2017) and son William Carson Nurse (1958), Virginia was the loving mother of Susan (Bill, Belleville), David (Quinte West) and Michael (Helen, St. Albert, AB). She will be missed by her grandchildren Madelaine (Scott, St. Albert, AB), Patrick (Mira, Edmonton, AB), Stuart (Ashley, St. Albert, AB) and David (Belleville); her step grandchildren, Josh (Belleville), Jenna (Australia); her sister Eleanor (Windsor); her brothers Bill (Windsor), Jim (Florida) and Tom (Windsor); and her great grandchildren Cole, Logan, Andrew and Chloe. Ginny was born in Goderich on November 10, 1931 and moved with her parents Herman (d. 1999) and Margaret (d. 2016) to Windsor. After finishing school, she joined the Royal Canadian Air Force where she served her country as a teletype operator. Ginny then met her husband William (Bill) Nurse, LCol (Ret.) (d. 2017) after which, typical of the time she became a wonderful, full-time mother as her military family had postings in Downsview, Germany, Bagotville, Borden, Virginia (USA) and Trenton. Virginia loved to make crafts; needlepoint, sewing clothes, crochet, knitting doll clothes, collecting antiques, making artboards, fashioning Christmas ornaments from nature. Viriginia volunteered at public schools teaching public school kids to read. After retiring in Quinte West and travelling with Bill, Ginny had heart surgery. The unfortunate consequences of the surgery was the loss of her short-term memory and gradually, her long-term memory. The family was devastated by this turn of events. Virginia volunteered for many years at the National Air Force Museum of Canada, and spent her final years in the outstanding care of loving caregivers in Streamway at Belmont Long Term Care Facility. Virginia’s final resting place will be in the spring at St. Stephen’s Anglican Church 5280 Howard Ave., Oldcastle On cemetery, together again with husband Bill, son Billy and parents Herman and Margaret Chamney. A Memorial Visitation will be held at the Burke Funeral Home (613-968-6968), 150 Church Street, Belleville on Wednesday, March 11, 2026 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Donations appreciated to Quinte Health Care, the National Air Force Museum of Canada or Salvation Army.
