In Loving Memory of Ruth Solski (née Goheen)
With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Ruth Solski, who peacefully left this world on June 12th at the age of 84, surrounded by the unwavering love of her devoted husband of 62 years, Ed.
Ruth was a beloved wife, mother, educator, and mentor. Ruth will be profoundly missed by her husband Ed, her daughter Lisa, her son-in-law Jeff, her extended family, her dear friends in the Nifty-Fifties, and all those whose lives she touched.
Beloved sister of the late Dianne Ogden.
Ruth dedicated her life to education, leaving an indelible mark through her years of teaching with the Durham Board of Education. She inspired students at Harmony Road, Mary Street, and Frenchman’s Bay, instilling a love of learning in every classroom she entered. Beyond the walls of academia, Ruth was a pioneer in educational publishing, founding S&S Learning Materials Ltd., which later became On The Mark Press. She authored and edited over 1,200 educational resource books, tirelessly working to make learning engaging for children and to support teachers in their mission.
Music was another passion that enriched Ruth’s life and those around her. She loved playing the piano and teaching choral music, bringing people together through song. Her annual Solski Cider and Song gatherings in December were a joyful tradition that fostered warmth and connection among friends.
Ruth’s kindness, unwavering dedication, and passion for education and music will forever remain in our hearts. May she rest in peace.
Let her melody play on in our hearts forever.
Family and friends are invited to gather at Burke Funeral Home (613-968-6968) at 150 Church Street, Belleville, on Friday, June 20th, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A celebration of Ruth’s life will take place in the chapel on Saturday, June 21st, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow the service, with interment at Elmwood Cemetery, Corbyville.
