Nancy Eliza Barlas (nee Evans), was a beautiful soul – always gracious, always kind, creative and giving. Born in Belleville, Ontario she was a graduate of Queens University where she met Robert Barlas. They were married in 1965. Nancy was a dedicated teacher and took her talents to Singapore, where her son Richard was born and her daughter Sharine was adopted. Nancy also taught in New Zealand, China and Sri Lanka. Closer to home, she spent many years teaching at William R. Kirk school in Belleville.
Nancy was a passionate artist who loved batik, pottery, sewing and painting and was often found at art fairs. She was an adventurer at heart and loved traveling the world having visited over 100 countries.
She is survived by her son Richard, his wife Angela, her daughter Sharine and her grandchildren Andrew, Leo, Liam and Rowan. Nancy will be deeply missed by her vast network of family and friends, who are spread across the world.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Steele Family Centre, 20 Moira Street West, Belleville, Ontario, on Thursday July 3rd, beginning at 2 p.m. Family reflections will take place at 3:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. and will be livestreamed for those unable to attend in person. (See Link on the Steele Funeral Home website). Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation can be made in lieu of flowers.
