It is with sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Kenneth John Murphy on June 7th, in his 93rd year.
Born in Toronto to Patrick Murphy and Violet Murphy, Ken was predeceased by his companion, Shirley Landry; his former wife, Patricia McAvoy; and his sons, John Murphy and James Murphy.
He is lovingly remembered by his son, Stephen Murphy (Susan); his grandsons, Sean, Andrew, Michael, Mark, and Bryan; his sisters, Doreen Northcott and Dianne DeCiantis; his brothers-in-law, Joe DeCiantis and Conrad Maloney; and many nieces and nephews.
Ken will also be deeply missed by his special friends, Debbie and Bill Morton.
A lifelong sports enthusiast, Ken was an avid golfer and devoted fan of the Toronto Blue Jays and Toronto Maple Leafs. Growing up beside Maple Leaf Gardens, he was present for the Maple Leafs’ Stanley Cup victories in 1947, 1948, and 1949, memories he cherished throughout his life.
Ken was a successful hotel owner, operating properties in Smiths Falls, Belleville, Kingston, and Trenton. He was a proud member of Briar Fox Golf Club, where he enjoyed many rounds and lasting friendships with his golfing buddies, Peter and Rick.
He looked forward to his casino outings and conversations with his dear friend Jim and treasured his time in Destin and telephone chats with his special friends, Larry and Bev.
The family extends sincere thanks to Dr. Chooback, Dr. Leal, Dr. Balabhadra, the exceptional staff of the Dr. Douglas A. MacIntosh Cancer Clinic and Quinte Hospice, as well as Melinda from Health@Home and caregivers from VON, for their compassionate care and support.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, Godfrey, Ontario at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
