Judith Marie Knopp Brown
March 15, 1938 – January 28, 2026
Judy was born in Salem, Ohio to Ellen Doris Clemson and Paul Lincoln Knopp. She was the capable older sister of: Paul Alvin Knopp, Dorothy Ann Knopp (d), Earl Clifford Blake (Sandy), and David Joel Blake (Valeria). Recently she connected with another brother, Allen Sassno (Susan).
On Judy’s 20th birthday, she married and left her childhood friends and home to live on the banks of the Trent River in Ontario, Canada. She and her husband W.A. (Jay) Brown had four children: Ellen Marie, William Jay, Daniel Paul, and Philip Malcolm, and they cared for several additional children over the years.
Judith loved music. She played the saxophone and clarinet and enjoyed the sound of the big band. She was part of her high school band and became a musician in the Eastern Ontario Concert Orchestra, a Seniors Band, and the Peterborough New Horizon Band. She played in concerts and rode on Santa Claus parade floats in many small towns. Classical music was often playing on the radio and Saturday afternoons meant listening to opera. Judy was a strong supporter of community arts and enjoyed summer events at Westben. She was a talented seamstress, excellent baker, voracious reader and played Scrabble as a competitor. She enjoyed her work with radio broadcasting, interviewing dozens of well-known Canadians, and as a writer for print media. She spent hours meticulously organizing genealogy information for her family. Although, most important to her, above all else, was her dedication to her faith.
She leaves her children, ten grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren, siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends. Family and Friends are invited to a Memorial Service at Glad Tidings Pentecostal Church, 71 Bridge Street, Campbellford on Sunday March 15th at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to Westben would be appreciated by the family. Online guestbook, condolences and memories may be shared at www.weaverfuneralhomes.com.
