John ( ‘Jack’ ) Thomas SHOREY
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Jack SHOREY on Saturday, August 8th, 2026, in his 80th year, at the Pearl long-term care home, formerly the McQuigge Lodge, in Cannifton, Ontario. He will be forever missed by his family and close friends.
A lifelong resident of Belleville ( to include Cannifton ), he was born on April 15th, 1947, the middle child of parents Elmer and Margaret SHOREY. He is survived by his older sister, Nancy, and was predeceased by his baby sister, Lynne. He married the love of his life, Sharon ( nee HAMILTON ) in September of 1971. Much loved by his sons Edward and Eric (Stephanie), and sister-in-law Lynne HAMILTON ( Bernie ). He began his career in the accounting field after completion of high school, starting with McColl Turner and then moving to Wilkinson and Company where he remained until retirement. He obtained the designation of Chartered Accountant in 1975 and later became a partner at Wilkinson. He was also known to many due to his long-standing role as the treasurer for Front Road United Church, and later as treasurer for Melrose United Church. Others may remember him in relation to a lengthy involvement with Thurlow Minor Sports, acting as either a baseball coach or umpire. In the late 80s and early 90s, in a volunteer capacity, he was recognized by the City of Belleville for his contribution to the Waterfront Festival and Folklorama.
In recent years, he required medical assistance in a number of areas. The family is grateful and appreciative of the outstanding care and compassion provided by, in no particular order, the respective offices of Doctors Jeff ALLIN and Ashwin BALABHADRA, the VON office at Bayview Mall, Para Med Home Care Services, the hospitals of both Belleville and Kingston, local ambulance personnel, and the staff at the Pearl.
Visitation will be held at the Burke Funeral Home on Monday, August 17th, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Burke Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 18th, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. to be followed by a reception at that location. For those wishing to attend, interment to follow at Elmwood Cemetery. Rev. Caroline GRIESBRIECHT officiating. If desired, donations to the Belleville General Hospital Foundation, the Victorian Order of Nurses, or Diabetes Canada would be greatly appreciated by the family.
Arrangements entrusted to Burke Funeral Home Home ( 613-968-6968 ), 150 Church Street, Belleville. Online condolences at www.BurkeFuneral.ca
