Campbell: Joan (nee Bailey)
Peacefully, surrounded by the love of her family, on Friday July 11th in her 73rd year at the Heart of Hastings Hospice in Madoc.
Joan was the beloved wife and best friend to Don. Loving mother to David (Jen) and Mark (Anna), and the very proud “Grandma Joan” to her grandchildren Liam, Alivia, Jensen, Sam and Grace.
She was predeceased by her parents Christie and Ruth Bailey, stepmother Zella and her brother Eric, all from Cooper, as well as her father and mother-in-law Doug and Phyllis Campbell, of Stirling and her sister-in-law Joanne Salley.
She will be greatly missed by her twin sister Jane Derry (Mike), her brother Ralph, her sister-in-law Brenda Bateman and her many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Joan fought a nearly four year battle with cancer that she did with dignity, patience and courage. She will miss her time at the local ballfield and hockey rinks, first as a player gathering many championships with her teammates, then later as a supportive mother and finishing as a proud grandmother.
Joan and her family want to thank the following that provided care, support and motivation during her fight with cancer. Dr. Kankesan and the wonder staff at the Dr. Douglas A. MacIntosh Cancer Clinic, Quinte Health Care. Dr. Ashworth and the great staff at the Cancer Centre of Southeastern of Ontario in Kingston. Bayshore Home Care Solutions and the kind and caring staff that helped Joan stay home as long as possible. The Heart of Hastings Hospice and the exceptional staff that provided Joan with care and most importantly, comfort for her final days.
A special thank you to the dear friends who lifted Joan’s spirits with their visits, and to her golf buddies whose friendship and encouragement meant so much.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 26th, from 1–4 p.m. at the Stirling Lion’s Hall, with a ceremony and speeches at 3 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Joan’s memory are welcome (but not expected) and may be directed to the Heart of Hastings Hospice, the Belleville General Hospital Foundation, or a hospice or hospital of your choosing.
Joan never once asked, “Why me?” She remained grateful for the care she received and showed strength, grace, and love until the very end. She will forever be in the hearts of so many whose lives she touched.
