December 17, 1933 – June 22, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Glenn Allen Carey on Sunday, June 22, 2025 at the age of 91, surrounded by loved ones.
Glenn was born in his beloved Campbell’s Bay, Quebec to Allen & Erma Carey. He was married to Helen (Ward) and they celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary on June 15, 2025.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Helen, his children Carol (Brent) Babcock, Nancy (Bruce) Sergeant, and his grandchildren Robin (Kevin) Buhr, Julie (Chad) Lebold, Beth (Bud) Fisher, Ryan (Heather) Sergeant; and his great-grandchildren Katelyn, Carson, and Tyler Buhr, Avery, Jonah, and Sienna Lebold, Wesley and Lola Fisher and William, Charles and James Sergeant. His siblings Dorothy (Gordon) Smith, Grant (June) Carey, and Joan (Lorne) Babcock were all very dear to him.
Glenn loved hockey and played goalie well into his forties. He also loved golf and baseball. He was grateful for any opportunity to cheer on his great-grandchildren in these sports as well.
Glenn was known for his commitment to wherever he was serving. He worked at Bell Canada for 32 years. He served in his local church in Ottawa, Kingston, and Belleville, acting as building committee chairman at Arlington Woods in Ottawa, and Polson Park in Kingston. He has been involved with Wesley Acres since the beginning, as a member of the search committee, then directing the first Teen Camp, and helping install infrastructure from roads, to sewers, to water and electrical. Following his retirement from Bell he assumed the role of Maintenance Manager at Wesley Acres. After “retiring” from Wesley Acres, he volunteered on the backhoe and cut grass until the age of 88. He loved working to develop and maintain the property. He always said it was his legacy to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren (and hopefully) generations beyond. His great-grandchildren have been known to say it is their favourite place on earth.
He loved his Lord Jesus, his wife and family intensely. He was always quick with a story and a smile or laugh. He had the ability to make everyone feel special. The grandchildren said, while at his bedside, that he made them all believe they were his favourite. He especially loved when we would all gather at Wesley Acres for burgers and ice-cream.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on July 12 at 1:30 pm at Wesley Acres Retreat Centre & Campground in the DMC in Bloomfield, ON. A short time of visitation will begin at 1:00 pm. A small family reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wesley Acres (etransfer to: accounting@wesleyacres.com) or Hospice Prince Edward (https://www.canadahelps.org/en/dn/61756).
The family would like to thank Hospice Prince Edward for their compassionate care during his final days.
Forever in our hearts, Glenn (husband, dad, grandpa, great-grandpa and brother, and friend) will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
