Gail Lasher
We, as a family, are broken hearted and filled with sorrow on the passing of our dearly loved mother, grandmother, aunt, sister-in-law and friend. Gail peacefully passed at home on Sunday, April 27, 2025, at the age of 81, surrounded by loved ones. Gail had a lengthy battle with multiple cancers, and although she fought long and hard, she succumbed to her illness. Gail was born February 20, 1944 in Belleville, Ontario. Gail was a loving and devoted wife to Keith Lasher (predeceased) and they were the parents to Douglas (predeceased), Laurie Sherman, Bruce (Roxanne) Lasher, John Lasher, Marty Lasher (Marty passed 3 days before his Mom) and Doreen Lasher. Although she was the grandmother of Corina Cain (Lasher), she raised her as her own. She was also the grandmother of Keith Sherman, Michelle Sherman, Douglas Lasher, Brandon Lasher, Cody Lasher, Cassandra Lasher, Raymond Lasher, Kylee Carter (Brad), Mackenzie Lasher (Tyler), and Ryland Lasher. Great-grandmother of Brayden Cain, Liam Cain, Alyssa Cain, Peyton Allen and McKenna Wells. The daughter of Louis and Frances Turcotte (Healy) both predeceased, and was the last remaining sibling of Robert Turcotte, Hilda Jesse, Raymond Turcotte, Lillian Woodcock, Harold Turcotte, and Glenda McCarthy. Survived by brother-in-law Lorne (Pauline) Lasher and sister-in-law Mary Driver. Gail will fondly be remembered by her many nieces and nephews. Cherished by chosen family members Brenda Yearwood, Valerie Gregory (predeceased) and will always be remembered as “Ma” to Mary Lasher (Norton).
Gail was known for telling you how it is, her strong work ethics, her many talents; from wood working to baking and decorating cakes, to taking on income tax in the spring.
In her younger days she spent her time doing amateur racing, bowling, taking care of her children and ill parents. Gail and her husband owned a restaurant and gas bar in Roslin and enjoyed the farm life for over 25 years. Gail was a natural fighter right to the very end. To have half her strength, stubbornness and determination, one could only dream. Gail will truly be missed as she was the pillar to our family, a safe person to confide in, our lifeline during difficult times and the home that housed us all.
The family have organized a Celebration of Life for Gail Lasher which will be held at the Tyendinaga Township Recreation Hall, 363 McFarlane Road, Shannonville, Ontario, on Saturday, June 14th, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. ~ 4:30 p.m.
Donations can be made in her honour to the Canadian Cancer Society, the KGH Health Sciences Centre (Oncology), BGH (The Dr. Douglas A. MacIntosh Cancer Clinic) and/or Canadian Mental Health Association.
As I Sit in Heaven
As I sit in heaven
and watch you everyday,
I try to let you know with signs
I never went away.
I hear you when you’re laughing,
And watch you as you sleep.
I even place my arms around you,
To calm you while you weep.
I see you wish the days away,
Begging to have me home.
So I try to send you signs
So you know you are not alone.
Don’t feel guilty that you have life,
Life that was denied to me.
Heaven is truly beautiful,
Just you wait and see.
So live your life, laugh again,
Enjoy yourself, be free.
Then I know with each breath you take,
You’ll be taking one for me.
