Elda Lorraine Sopha
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Elda Lorraine Sopha at Belmont Long Care Facility on Monday, August 10/26 after a courageous battle with ALS.
Elda will always be loved and deeply missed by her dance partner and husband of 64 wonderful years, Jim. She will also be missed by her son Jim Sopha and his wife Marcey, and their daughter Jaimeson; her son Doug Sopha and his wife Kim; her son Terry Sopha and his wife Toni; and her daughter Sherry Sopha-MacDonald and her husband Donald, and their daughter Abby. She will also be remembered by her step-grandchildren, D.J., Jason, Amanda, and Terrance, and her great-grandchildren Hailey, Jacob, Tatianna, and Cali-rose.
She was predeceased by her parents Arthur (Elmer) and Alice Adams (Diamond).
Elda will also be greatly missed by her cousin, Nancy Frater, whom she considered a sister, and her many nieces and nephews.
While raising her family, Elda worked in accounting and bookkeeping. She enjoyed camping with her family and cheering on her husband and children as they participated in sports over the years.
Elda and Jim were always by each other’s side, sharing their life together through every step of their journey. In retirement, they enjoyed spending quality time with Jaimeson and Abby when they were little, babysitting and visiting their children whenever they could. They also dedicated themselves to helping others by providing countless volunteer hours to the local hospital auxiliaries in the Bancroft and Belleville communities, even receiving awards for their generous donation of time. They stayed close to their many lifelong friends and extended family.
Elda lived a simple life full of love, enjoyment, and time shared with all those who meant so much to her.
We would like to thank the staff of Belmont Long Term Care Facility for going above and beyond to care for our mom.
Cremation has taken place. Please join us Saturday, September 5, 2026 between 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. at the Foster Ward Community Centre to celebrate Elda’s life.
