It is with great love and sadness, that the family of Diane Sule announces that Diane passed peacefully on July 4th 2026.
Diane was born to Doris and Gordon “Bud” Trill on May 2nd, 1940 in the town of Lindsay, Ontario. Her father worked for a bank. They sent him to Peterborough in 1942 where her little brother Peter was born. The family wasn’t there long before Bud was moved again by the bank to the city of Belleville. The family got to stay in Belleville and it was there Diane did her growing up.
Diane’s early years were idyllic and filled with family activities like spending time at Uncle Donald’s cottage on Paudash Lake and some boisterous Christmases at Nana and Pomper’s on Mavety street in Toronto. Diane was a social young woman and had a large circle of friends that remained close for most of her life.
She graduated from Belleville Collegiate and went off to Queens in Kingston. There she studied sciences and liberal arts and earned a BA. It didn’t take her long to land a job at the Canadian Red Cross Blood Services as a lab technician. She worked her way up to manager.
In the 1970’s Diane met the love of her life, Michael Sule. They were married in Toronto and lived there a few more years before Diane took an early retirement. Mike and Diane agreed to return to her hometown of Belleville. Diane thoroughly enjoyed being retired. She became an avid gardener and her garden was often featured in the Belleville garden tours. She was an active member of the Belleville Historical Society. She adored opera and always had it playing on the kitchen radio. Needlepoint became a passion for her too and her family still treasures these creations.
Diane loved to travel. She liked knowing the history of the places she visited in Europe. Later in life Mike and Diane did some stays in Florida during the winter.
Her family were very important to her and she leaves to grieve her brother Peter and his wife Verena and their children Helen and David. Diane had many cousins with whom she was very close. The McPhee cousins (on her father’s side) Jon, Paul and Mary Lou were often together with the Trills. There were also the many Ney’s from her mother’s side of the family; Liz and Chris and Pam and Heather. All her family adored her and will miss her very much.
The family would like to express their thanks and appreciation to the staff at the Belmont. There is also profound gratitude for Betty who always went above and beyond in her care and support of Diane.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Arrangements entrusted to the Burke Funeral Home (613-968-6968), 150 Church Street, Belleville. Online condolences at www.BurkeFuenral.ca
