Genereaux, Douglas… Passed away with his daughters by his side at Hastings Manor on Thursday, June 19, 2025 at the age of 83. Beloved husband of the late Catherine (Foshay) Genereaux for 62 years. He was a constant source of love and support, present for every milestone and memory in his daughters’ lives – Lori Smith (late Brian) and Brenda Jordan (Tim). Cherished Popa to his grandchildren; Holly James, Melanie Barrett (Michael), Arthur Lewis (Jennifer) and Kate Durkin (James), and adored beyond words by his great-grandchildren; Lakelin, Ella, Tallon, Noah, Lorelei, Aubree, and Felicity.
Doug is predeceased by parents Felix and Jean Genereaux. He is survived by his brothers; Gary Genereaux (Marguerite), Leslie Genereaux (Judy) and predeceased by Phillip Genereaux (surviving wife Grace) and Roy Genereaux (surviving wife Madeline), as well as his sisters; Dorothy Hudson, Ruth Dupre and Lois Lohnes and will be greatly missed by his many nieces and nephews.
Doug was a proud Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus and a faithful supporter of St. Peter’s Church. It was there he married the love of his life, Catherine. His seat in the back pew was where he held a constant presence – he was a dedicated and steadfast attendee, rooted in faith and community. Doug and Catherine shared a beautiful life together, travelling to Florida and South Carolina during the winter months to embrace the warmth of the sand and sun with their dear friends who shared in a lifetime of memories.
A lifelong hockey fan, Doug coached in his younger years and never missed a chance to cheer on his favourite teams and players. He worked for 34 years at Sunoco Paper Mill in Glen Miller. Together with Catherine, he embraced every moment, surrounded by laughter, love and his family and friends. Doug’s heart belonged entirely to his family and his unwavering love will be deeply missed, but his spirit lives on in all who were lucky enough to know him.
In keeping with Doug’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Funeral Mass will be held in honour of his life at St. Peter’s Church on what would have been his and Catherine’s 63rd wedding anniversary – July 21, 2025 – at 11:00 a.m. A beautiful reflection of a lifetime of love, this special day will bring Doug and Catherine together once more, as they are laid to rest together at Mount Calvary Cemetery following the Mass. Family and friends are warmly invited to a reception to follow. Donations to the Alzheimer’s Society would be appreciated by the family.
