Alfred Thornton Nelson
Alfred passed away peacefully at the age of 98, leaving behind a legacy defined not only by longevity, but by a life richly and intentionally lived.
At the heart of Alfred’s life was his great love, Isabella (Young), his devoted wife and lifelong partner until her passing in 2010. Their bond shaped the life they built together and remained a constant presence with him always.
Alfred was a loving father to Bruce (Lois), Ruthie (Philippe), and Scott, and a proud grandfather to Jeremie (Anne-Laure), Benjamin (Gabriela), and Jenna (Brendan). He was also a cherished great-grandfather to eight great-grandchildren, often getting down on the floor to play, laugh, and fully share in their world.
He was predeceased by his four siblings—Marion, Helen, Roy, and Don.
Alfred remained independent throughout his later years thanks to the unwavering care and kindness of his close friends—Denise, Ross, Kathy, and many others—whose companionship was a cornerstone of his life.
Throughout every stage of life, Alfred maintained a wonderful sense of humour. He loved a good joke and held onto his wit right to the very end.
Alfred will be deeply missed, but his passing is also a moment of gratitude—for a life beautifully lived, and for love so generously given.
Funeral Service will be held at Steele Funeral Home, 30 Moira Street West, Belleville (613-968-2273), on Thursday, January 22nd, 2026, at 2:00 p.m., with visitation one hour prior to service.
If desired, donations in memory of Alfred may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
