Alexander Craig (March 22, 1948 – January 17, 2026)
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Alex Craig, at Belleville General Hospital, on January 17, 2026, at the age of 77. Born in Pollokshaws, Scotland, Alex emigrated to Canada as a young man and built a life defined by dedication, integrity, and a deep love for family.
He will be forever missed by his devoted wife Mary, of 42 years, his loving daughter Heather (Don) Ellery, and cherished grandchildren Hannah and William, as well as his sister-in-law Susan Langford (David Benning, deceased) and their children Michael and Sarah Benning. An author, presenter, and exhibitor, Alex had a lifelong passion for military history and the Royal Marines. He served as a museum curator and docent and authored the award-winning book Rockets, Bombs, and Bayonets on the War of 1812. He also enjoyed his membership and friends in the Royal Marines Association of Ontario.
Alex will be remembered for his generosity, dry wit, love of history, and unwavering devotion to those he loved. He was deeply cherished and will be dearly missed.
Following cremation, a private service was held in Belleville at the Burke Funeral Home, in keeping with Alex’s wishes.
