Mallory MacDonald – New Democratic Party of Canada
PERSONAL BACKGROUND:
I am a non practicing nurse that has learned first hand what the policies for the Liberals and the Conservatives have done to the people and the environment. I worked as a VON home care nurse and absolutely loved being in the community. I am a singer, dancer, crafter and above all human. I have dedicated my life to helping others and I am not stopping.
REASONS FOR ENTERING THE RACE:
I was disabled and suddenly thrust into poverty, and I finally saw what was really going on. We hear grand announcements and plans from the Liberals but none of us were seeing any benefit. I realized that even though I was among them I was still standing in privilege and thought I could use that to give them the voice they deserve.
WHAT NATIONAL ISSUES ARE MOST IMPORTANT TO YOU?:
The NDP believes that we cannot tackle one issue without the other and although climate is the most pressing we know we can’t change that if we leave people behind. We have a plan that helps those in need while creating good green economy jobs that we all benefit from.
WHAT PRIORITIES WOULD YOU ADVOCATE FOR IN OUR LOCAL RIDING?:
We need more affordable housing now. The occupancy rate is basically zero and people have no where to go. We need people in housing so that they can be in a better life an more equipped to help tackle the big issues like the climate.

Frank Vaughan – People’s Party of Canada
PERSONAL BACKGROUND:
Farmer, Nurseryman, Community Activist, Political Commentary.
REASONS FOR ENTERING THE RACE:
Primarily, Canada is a broken democracy that lacks choice.
The majority of the electorate thinks in terms of red and blue being the only choices we can ever have, while under both mismangement and corruption have been the order of the day for generations.
I do not like what the Greens and the NDP offer (bigger government, higher taxes, socialism unleashed). I believe in people, and individual responsibility.
There is a measure of social responsiblity that we all share to our benefit. However, it is my view that we have moved to far in the direction of looking to government to solve all of our problems when government has long demonstrated a lacklustre track record of solving anything efficiently or well.
I also believe the People’s Party has been dishonestly treated. We are a party of diverse candidates of every ethnic and religious background united behind our platform, and its four pillars: Freedom, Fairness, Personal Responsbility, and Respect.
This unfair treatment, as well as knowing Maxime and other members of our party for some time, motivates me to stand under the PPC banner and do my best to counter the disinformation.
We are comprised of those who haven’t voted in some time. We are former NDP, Liberal, Greens, and Conservatives. I was a member of the CPC until Maxime left. My Financial Agent is a former Green. My EDA secretary is the daughter of a two time NDP candidate whom she campaigned for. My EDA VP, Libertarian.
The PPC has a set of policies that would strengthen our nation, unleash our economy, protect our freedoms, and respect the constitution.
For those reasons and many more, I chose to stand in 2019.
WHICH NATIONAL ISSUES ARE MOST IMPORTANT TO YOU?:
Freedom of speech and expression are huge issues this cycle. We have a culture that encourages repression of conversation around difficult subjects, like immigration.
To even suggest that the system needs reform, even when it clearly does, is to invite many voices in the media, and often violent leftists, to call you racist and xenophobic.
Our position on immigration, according to survey after survey, is the position of the majority of Canadians, or if not the majority, the largest block within immigraiton surveys.
We are a pro-immigration party, but we want our border to be strong, and we want people to come in the right way.
Many of our supporters are themselves immigrants, and they wish to protect the Canada they uprooted to become part of. Come to our rally’s, and you can see for yourself that it is a snapshot of Canadian demographics.
We also want to end all corporate welfare, and put an end to Canada’s habit of supporting third world despots through our foreign aid programs.
We want to get Canada right, and put our financial house in order, as that is the primary way to yield the maximum long term benefits to Canadians. We are not a party that makes promises with an eye to the election cycle, but one looking at actual long term solutions.
The other parties all want to borrow from the future to pay for their electoral success. We will not do so.
We have unveiled comprehensive plans on everything from looking after our veterens to native relations. In fact, we have more detailed policy proposals than any other party.
I enourage folks to read about them all on our website.
WHAT PRIORITIES WOULD YOU ADVOCATE FOR OUR LOCAL REGION?:
I wish to represent our constituent’s interests not only federally, but to be an advocate at the provincial and municipal levels.
While it is my role to represent factual debate going both ways (to our people here in the riding, as well as in Ottawa) my job is to also represent those needs to levels of government outside Federal jurisdiction.
I am there to be an advocate for legitimate local interests.
For instance, those who have had their property flooded and damaged due to Plan 2014 would gain a voice who would demand that they have their interests represented to the board whose decisions led to said flooding.
I would work to restore the Federal government to it’s proper place, sending powers back to the provinces that the constitution allotted to them, while at the same time enforcing those powers designated to Ottawa.
Most of all, I would listen. When a PPC candidate gets elected, they do not work for the party first. We are given the freedom to vote our electorate’s conscience, and to bring forward any private members bill they may want to see introduced in the House of Commons.
This is how our government once worked, how it should work, and under a PPC government, how it will work.
A vote for us is a vote for strengthening local representative democracy.

Jeff Wheeldon – Green Party of Canada
NAME, PARTY, PERSONAL BACKGROUND:
I am a REALTOR® based in Brighton, where I live with my wife and two sons, 5 and 2. I hold a Master of Arts degree, and my research focused on the role of personal and social ethics in reforming social institutions – the idea that doing the right thing and taking care of each other can prevent our institutions from breaking down or being corrupted. In the past I’ve worked in higher education administration, but I’ve also been a truck driver and a factory worker.
REASONS FOR ENTERING THE RACE:
Everything I do is focused on ensuring my kids can inherit a livable world and sustainable society. That means addressing the climate crisis, but also helping our society to adapt to the emerging automated economy and supporting our national and international institutions, all of which are under strain in this polarized, post-truth era. I want to address the toxic culture of our politics, reducing partisanship and emphasizing the importance of ethics, leadership, and collaboration toward a vision of a better Canada and a better world. That’s what politics is supposed to be about, after all.
WHICH NATIONAL ISSUES ARE MOST IMPORTANT TO YOU?:
Climate change is the most important issue, because it affects everything, from global trade and security right down to how we flush our toilets (because our sewer system here in Brighton depends on a constructed wetland that is negatively affected by flooding). It is the biggest threat to peace, health, and food security we’ve ever faced. And addressing it will create hundreds of thousands of jobs, spur innovation, and connect us to the $5 Trillion dollar global renewables market.
I’m also very concerned about the lack of vision I’ve seen from our government in regard to our changing economy. The information economy is almost entirely unregulated and untaxed, and automation and AI are expected to eliminate 60% of the jobs that currently exist over the next 20-30 years. Without strong leadership, economic inequality will continue to increase, as more and more people have to compete against robots or settle for minimum-wage, part-time jobs. With a Guaranteed Livable Income, national Pharmacare, free tuition, and universal child care, paid for with an increase in corporate taxes and an elimination of the tax havens and loopholes that allow the ultra-rich to avoid paying their taxes, we can ease the transition to a new economy that has less labour and create a more sustainable and inclusive society at the same time.
WHAT PRIORITIES WOULD YOU ADVOCATE FOR OUR LOCAL REGION?:
We live in an agricultural region, so supporting local farmers is a top priority. Food will always be our most important product, and farming has changed tremendously over the past half-century, with agribusiness models that make it harder to make a living as a farmer, much less pass a farm on to the next generation. Agriculture is also a pivotal element in addressing climate change: depending on which practices a farm uses, farming can either be a major emitter of carbon or a fantastic way to sequester carbon in the soil. As such the Green Party wants to support farmers in ways that make farming more sustainable, both environmentally and economically. We would reduce the administrative burden on small businesses, including family farms; provide a Guaranteed Livable Income that would benefit everyone, but which would be especially valuable to people with seasonal income; support transition to sustainable farming practices that are well proven but not widespread; invest in local agricultural infrastructure, like slaughterhouses and facilities like the Ontario Agri-Food Venture Centre in Colborne, and more.
The housing crisis is another major local issue. I experience this daily at work, and it is not sustainable – at some point the market will break, but not before we see far too many people experiencing homelessness, with all of the threats and issues that come with it. The Green Party would legislate housing as a human right, and support building 25,000 new units and 15,000 renovated units every year for the next ten years. We’d create incentives for purpose-built rental housing, and increase support for cooperative housing. This would take pressure off of the housing market, and allow it to cool, lowering prices for everyone even as we provide affordable housing for the most vulnerable.
