The issue of the Irish Hall is back before City Council in Belleville this afternoon. Councillor Garnet Thompson requested matters pertaining to the joint archives facility be added to today’s council agenda but wouldn’t elaborate on why. The City and Hastings County purchased the old Irish Hall on Church Street, last fall, but, City Council shocked the Historical Society, last month, by turning down a proposal to hire an archivist which is needed to plan the design and upkeep of the archives. The salary of between 60-and-73 thousand dollars would be split 50-50 with the County.
